Archery is a popular sport practiced by thousands of people across the world and is even a competition in the summer Olympics. Archery is a sport that requires a large amount of skill, technique, and practice. There are two basic types of bows that are used; the recurve and the compound bows. Compound bows are generally used for hunting but can also be used in competition. The main difference between compound bows and recurves is that the pull system on the compound bow allows for a lack of tension upon pulling back the string. Recurve bows however have a constant tension upon the limbs. Knowing the type of bow being used and its parts allows for better shooting and a more enjoyable time.

The recurve bow is made of several different parts each of which serve an important purpose. The type of arrow being used makes a large difference on the accuracy of a shot. The two most common types are aluminum which is cheaper and carbon fiber which is expensive but has a better flight. The actual bow itself is made up of several basic parts. Perhaps the most important and what determines the power of a shot are the limbs of a bow. These are the upper and lower appendages of the bow that create the tension when pulling back on the string. The tension is measured in pounds going from 20lbs upwards to around 60lbs. The middle part of the bow is called the riser. This is where the limbs are attached to and were you rest the arrow. On the riser you can attach several different objects to help you shoot. The sight is what is used to aim the arrow allowing for manual adjustment ensuring accuracy. A stabilizer can be added on making a counter weight on your bow allowing for steadier aim and a clicker is applied to tell you when youve pulled an arrow back far enough and should release. These are essentially the basic parts of the bow that allow an archer to perfect their aim and make for consistent shooting.
